<hi style=afpcap>Experience gained from the development of the BC-1 lead North American to redefine the design to become the BC-1A which itself became the AT-6 in 1940. As the Army Air Corps requirement for additional pilots increased so did the number of T-6s, with the type being chosen to become the single aircraft which trainee pilots received their advanced training. Demand from the Army was insatiable resulting in a second production line being established at Dallas, Texas as well as the plant at Inglewood, California. Eventually the Dallas facility was turned over the T-6 production exclusively, enabling Inglewood to concentrate on other projects. Several thousand T-6s were produced for the Army as well as the Navy and some overseas customers including Great Britain. As with several other designs from the period, the type enjoyed considerable civilian ownership post-War with hundreds still flyable within the popular warbird movement.</hi>
